Orange Calcite - Origin and Benefits

Let's discover orange calcite together, a stimulating and joyful stone!

Hardness : 3

Chakra : sacral chakra, solar plexus chakra

Let's Learn!

The name Calcite comes from the Greek "chalix" meaning "small stone", or "khalx" and from the Latin derivative "calx" or "calcis" designating lime (dry mineral material used in the construction of buildings since Antiquity for example) .

The German mineralogist Johann Carl Freiesleben gave it its name of "carbonated lime" in 1836. Name that was replaced by that of "crystalline mesh" thanks to Habriel Delafosse. This name then disappeared to be replaced by the current one of "calcite".

It can however be called Honey Calcite for its aspect of crystallized honey.

Discovered during Antiquity, it will not capture the attention of experts until the 17th century.

The latter became curious about its optical qualities because it is able to split images. Thanks to it, this field of research will make very big advances following the analysis made on it.

In Japan, it embodies courage, vitality and strength. It is therefore often worn as a sign of bravery.

It is now used for the creation of jewelry, as well as in lithotherapy for its benefits.

But WHAT is it?

This is a mineral that can be of chemical origin and composed of natural calcium carbonate.

It was previously called Limestone Spath or Limestone.

When it does not contain metal, it remains colorless.

This makes it a fairly fragile mineral that will fear scratches.

It is part of the mineral species of carbonates, it belongs more precisely to the family of calcite-dolomites-aragonites.

It can be observed in the form of stalactites and stalagmites in certain underground cavities.

It can have different colors. The most found are orange calcite, blue calcite, and green calcite.

They can all vary from translucent to opaque.

It is exploited in industry to make lime or cement. It can be found in the form of building or ornamental stones such as marble in the construction sector.

Glassblowers also use it to melt glass.

It can also be found in the composition of certain cosmetic products, certain paints or even in chemical substances such as fertilizer.

This stone being quite widespread, its main deposits are in Russia, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil.
